Catalytic converters were cut off two vehicles parked in a gated lot behind HLS Properties, 275 W. First St., in Eureka. Together, the catalytic converters were valued at about $3,000, Eureka Police reported.
Surveillance footage from about 12:20 a.m. Jan. 16, reportedly showed a man use tires to scale a fence and get into the parking lot, despite the gate not being secured. At about 4:30 a.m., the man could be seen under a 1997 Windstar Recreation Vehicle with a flashlight, and at about 5:40 a.m., he was seen approaching other vehicles in the lot, the report said.
At about 10 a.m., the 43-year-old owner of HLS Properties, a demolition and excavation company, discovered the converters had been cut off his RV and a company-owned 2000 Ford Excursion, according to the report.
As of Feb. 1, neither of the converters had been recovered, and the suspect had not been identified, Lt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
