A rental car stolen from outside a home in the 5000 block of White Oak Lane in Imperial on May 18 was recovered by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department on May 27, authorities reported.
The victim told the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office that the theft occurred between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. May 18. She said the car, a 2017 Hyundai Accent rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, was in her driveway when it was stolen, the report said.
She said an Enterprise manager had told her the company was going to take back the car because she had kept it beyond the agreement date. She said she left the car in her driveway with the doors unlocked and the keys inside so the company could get it, according to the report.
When she returned home later that day, the Hyundai was gone and she assumed the company had taken possession. However, on May 23 she learned it had not been repossessed, the report said.
The car was valued at $15,000, according to the report.
St. Louis Police found the Hyundai on May 27 in the 2600 block of Cherokee Street.
“The vehicle was towed and only the owner would be able to pick up the vehicle,” a St. Louis Police spokesman said June 6.
He said the vehicle had damage to the front end and fenders.
The spokesman said two suspects were arrested, but later released after “warrants were applied for and refused by the Circuit Attorney’s Office.”
