A candle left burning in a bathroom caused a fire at a home at 117 Eastview Drive in Fenton on Feb. 3.
At 9:52 a.m., the Saline Valley Fire Protection District got a call about the fire. By the time firefighters arrived on the scene four minutes later, the homeowner already had put out the fire, said Joseph LaPlant, deputy chief for Saline Valley Fire Protection District.
The unattended candle caught a towel on fire and damaged the bathroom, but the damage was not severe enough that the man who lives there had to leave his home, LaPlant said.
“We ventilated the building and made sure it was clear before we left,” he said.
“Always use caution with open candles,” LaPlant added.
