A Byrnes Mill man has charged in a robbery at one House Springs store and a burglary at another store in House Springs, both on or around April 10. He is accused of using pepper spray on a clerk in one of the incidents, authorities reported.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Jaden S. Brown, 23, with second-degree robbery, a class B felony, and second-degree burglary, a class D felony. He was being held May 3 in the Jefferson County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
Overnight between April 9 and April 10, Brown allegedly burglarized Andy’s Produce, 4653 Gravois Road, stealing about $571 in items from the store, including a credit card machine, two wireless security cameras, seven hanging flower baskets and 20 pieces of fruit, according to court records and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office probable-cause statement in the case.
Brown also was charged in connection with the April 10 robbery of the BP gas station, 4865 Gravois Road. According to the probable-cause statement, Brown allegedly entered the business at approximately 1:30 a.m. and “used pepper spray to incapacitate the employee.” He then took the cash register containing $375 and fled.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said the clerk, a 28-year-old man, was given medical assistance at the scene. The cash register was recovered, he said.
Brown allegedly admitted to both the burglary and the robbery, according to the report.
If convicted, Brown faces up to 15 years in prison for the class B felony and up to seven years for the class D felony.
