Eureka Police are investigating thefts from 10 storage units at Storage Rentals of America, 306 W. Fourth St. A total of $11,991.17 worth of items were stolen, police reported.

Officers were called at about 10:45 a.m. Jan. 31 to the storage facility. An employee said he was unable to enter a building that houses temperature-controlled units due to items being pushed against the back door, the report said.

The latches on the units’ doors were broken, and 10 locks were found on the ground, according to the report.

The employee also told police the front gate to the business was broken and could not be locked. He also said the temperature-controlled building’s door is typically left unlocked, the report said.

However, it appears the business was entered through a different gate that was locked. Investigators found the gate in the rear of the business damaged, according to the report.

The employee told the officers the Storage Rentals of America location, 43 Old Elam Ave., in Valley Park had been burglarized earlier in the week, the report said.

As of Feb. 28, none of the stolen items had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, Capt. Michael Werges said. He asks anyone with information about the burglaries to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
