A Bloomsdale man almost was out a $30,000 pickup, after he sold it on Craigslist and then learned the funds used to pay for it were not valid, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The victim advertised a black 2015 Chevrolet pickup for sale on Craigslist and then sold it to two men on Sept. 12. Four days later, on Sept. 16, however, the victim’s bank contacted him and said the funds used to pay for the pickup were no good, the report said.
Fortunately, the vehicle was equipped with OnStar, a subscription-based communications system General Motors offers for vehicles, which was used to locate the vehicle in Indiana, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office contacted authorities in Indiana about the stolen pickup, and a short time later it was recovered there and then towed to storage location, the report said.
After the pickup was recovered, Indiana authorities contacted the Sheriff’s Office, which, in turn, contacted the victim, according to the report.
The case is still under investigation, Arnhart said.
As of Sept. 22, there were no suspects or arrests, he said.
