Local and state authorities have confirmed that De Soto City Council member Todd Mahn is being investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control.

De Soto Police Chief Jeff McCreary said today, Nov. 20, that on Oct. 19, the Police Department took an initial report involving a rape allegation against Mahn. The incident allegedly occurred between Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 in De Soto.

McCreary said he immediately requested the Missouri Highway Patrol take over the investigation. Sgt. Brad Germann, spokesman for the patrol’s Drug and Crime Control Division, confirmed that McCreary requested the patrol investigate the incident.

“It is an active, ongoing investigation,” Germann said today. “The findings will be released to the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. I don’t know if a special prosecutor will be assigned to the case yet.”

Mahn said this afternoon he is “aware that false allegations were made” against him last month. He said his attorney, Will Goldstein of Clayton, has advised him not to say anything more.

Goldstein issued the following statement this afternoon: “We are surprised and frankly disappointed that a newspaper would be publishing an article without verifiable and reliable sources. Mr. Mahn categorically denies any wrongdoing whatsoever. He has passed a polygraph examination. And over these allegations, he has been stalked by individuals in the community in ways that have been absolutely appalling.”

De Soto City Manager Todd Melkus said he is aware of the investigation but has been told by the city attorney not to comment, except to say the case is being handled by the highway patrol.

Mahn, who owns Mahn Funeral Home and Mahn Cemetery and Mausoleum, was elected to the De Soto City Council in April 2023.
