The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of an automated teller machine (ATM) from Brookdale Farms southeast of Eureka. After it was stolen, the machine appeared to have fallen off a vehicle, leaving debris on Hwy. W, authorities reported.

The theft happened during the overnight hours between May 15 and May 16, when someone stole the machine from outside the business, 8004 Twin Rivers Road. The Sheriff’s Office report did not say who owned the ATM machine.

It looked like a 120-foot portion of the fence at Brookdale Farms was damaged when the thief was fleeing from the scene. The Sheriff’s Office got a call at about 4:40 a.m. May 16 when the ATM was spotted on the side of Hwy. W near Twin Rivers Road, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not report whether the machine had been broken into or if money was in the machine. The cost to replace the machine was valued at about $1,000, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The report did not give an estimate for the damage to the fence.

As of May 17, no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
