Ashlee Wilfong, 23, of Arnold has been charged with a felony after her 1-year-old child allegedly ingested fentanyl, St. Louis County prosecutors reported.

Wilfong allegedly admitted to dropping a capsule containing fentanyl near the child on June 20, and the child later appeared dazed, so Wilfong called 911. The child was taken to an area hospital and tested positive for fentanyl and opiate ingestion, according to the probable-cause statement in the case, which was filed by Overland Police.

Police searched Wilfong’s room and reportedly found 106 capsules containing substances believed to be heroin or fentanyl. Wilfong allegedly told investigators the tablets contained heroin, the report said.

It was unclear in the report if the room police searched was in Arnold or St. Louis County.

Wilfong was charged June 21 with endangering the welfare of a child, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. As of June 22, Wilfong was being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $50,000 bond, according to court documents.
