Arnold Police are seeking a white SUV that reportedly left the scene of an accident after striking a man who walked into traffic on I-55 near Church Road. The 23-year-old Arnold man said he believed his leg was broken, and he was taken to an area hospital for treatment, Detective Lt. Jason Valentine said.

Before the accident, which occurred at 11:13 p.m. May 23, the man reportedly called police and asked that the interstate be shut down so he could cross it. He also said that if it weren’t shut down, he would walk into traffic, the report said.

Sometime after that, the man, who was on the south side of the interstate, allegedly walked into the traffic and was struck by a vehicle that witnesses described as a white Honda SUV. Officers found shoes and a wallet that belonged to the man about 50 feet south from where he reportedly was hit by the SUV. A side-view mirror believed to have fallen off the SUV also was found, according to the report.

As of June 10, the SUV had not been located, Valentine said. Anyone with information about the incident should call Arnold Police at 636-296-3204.
