Two Arnold men, one 18 and the other 60, are facing charges in connection with an apparent road rage incident that started in Arnold and ended in unincorporated Jefferson County between Arnold and Fenton. The two men had not been arrested as of Aug. 11, but Arnold Police are seeking charges against them through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.

The incident began at about 6:15 p.m. Aug. 2 at Church Road and Stardust Drive in Arnold, where the 18-year-old reportedly rode a 2004 Honda CBR motorcycle between two vehicles stopped at a traffic signal at the intersection. The 60-year-old, who was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram, called 911 to report what happened and followed the motorcycle on Church Road, the report said

Both men reportedly made obscene hand gestures at each other while traveling down Church Road. When the motorcycle and pickup stopped at the intersection of Church and Old Lemay Ferry roads, the older man got out of the pickup and allegedly grabbed a lanyard attached to a key in the CBR’s ignition, according to the report.

The ignition key did not come out of the motorcycle, but the 60-year-old reportedly stole the lanyard, which had other keys on it. The younger man rode away, and the older man continued to follow the motorcycle onto Hwy. 141, the report said.

The 18-year-old said the older man attempted to run him off the road multiple times. The 60-year-old said the younger man knocked the rearview mirrors off the Ram, causing an estimated $300 in damage, according to the report.

Arnold Police began to follow the motorcycle and pickup on northbound Hwy. 141 and caught up to the men at the intersection with Hwy. 21. The men stopped at a traffic signal, and officers took reports from both men.

Officers said the 18-year-old did not have a license to operate a motorcycle and the motorcycle was not registered, the report said.

Christopher said Arnold Police are seeking charges against the men through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office – for property damage, riding a motorcycle without the proper license and failure to register the motorcycle against the 18-year-old and for second-degree assault and stealing against the 60-year-old.
