Arnold Police arrested a 36-year-old East St. Louis man and a 46-year-old Collinsville, Ill., man after they reportedly fled the Home Depot store, 3865 Vogel Road, following an alleged attempted theft there. The younger man allegedly tried to steal more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from the store, police reported.
A Home Depot employee stopped the younger man on March 22 after he allegedly left the store with a cart full of electronics he hadn’t paid for. The man ran away, leaving the cart behind, and got into a 1999 Buick Park Avenue driven by the older man, and they drove away north on Vogel Road, the report said.
An officer located the car in the parking lot outside Aspen Dental, 1200 Big Bill Road, and the men were inside it. The older man was wanted on a warrant from St. Louis County Police for felony stealing, and the officer identified the younger man as the suspect in the attempted theft at Home Depot, according to the report.
The men were arrested and taken to the Police Station. The younger man was booked and released pending application for warrants, and the older man was booked and held for St. Louis County Police, the report said.
Arnold Police will seek a felony stealing charge against the younger man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Maj. Clinton Wooldridge said.
