An Arnold Police officer’s body camera was damaged when he and another officer were involved in a brief altercation with a 34-year-old St. Louis man. The man allegedly had abandoned a shopping cart full of stolen merchandise at Home Depot, 3865 Vogel Road, police reported.
The Arnold Police Department got a call at about 12:30 p.m. April 27 that the man reportedly was leaving the store without paying for merchandise. The suspect saw the police cruiser pull into the parking lot and abandoned the cart filled with the items, the report said.
The officers recognized the man and knew he was wanted on felony warrants from the Ferguson, Chesterfield, Des Peres, St. Charles and Overland police departments. When officers attempted to stop the man in the parking lot, he allegedly tried to push the officers away, according to the report.
The officers eventually got the man to the ground. During the brief altercation, the clip holding one of the officer’s body cameras was damaged, and the department estimated that it would cost $20 to repair the unit, the report said.
The man was taken to the Police Station, where he was booked and issued citations to appear in Arnold Municipal Court for damaging property and resisting arrest. He was held for the other law enforcement agencies that wanted him, Detective Lt. Jeremy Christopher said.
