A 43-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested in Arnold, where he allegedly was found with a homemade shotgun. The man was not supposed to have a gun because he’s a convicted felon, Arnold Police reported.
He was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 when police pulled him over in the 100 block of Arnold Crossroads because he was driving a 2001 Dodge Caravan that had expired license plates, the report said.
When officers looked in the van the man was driving, they spotted a metal pipe that had electrical tape on it and appeared to have been fashioned into a 12-gauge shotgun. The driver, who had been convicted of felony burglary and stealing, allegedly told police he made the gun to deal with a nuisance deer, according to the report.
A 38-year-old Fenton man also was in the van, and Arnold Police wanted him on warrants for shoplifting, possession of an illegal substance and driving with a revoked license, the report said.
The men were arrested and taken to the Police Station, where they were booked and released. Arnold Police will seek a charge against the 43-year-old through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for unlawful possession of a weapon, and the 38-year-old was issued a new date to appear in Arnold Municipal Court, Capt. Rich Shular said.
