A small fire at an Arnold-area nursing home the evening of Sept. 26 forced the partial evacuation of the building, Saline Valley Fire Marshal Ryan Lesh said.
He said firefighters received a call at 7:35 p.m. to respond to South County Nursing Home, 1101 W. Outer Road.
“The fire was contained to a wall-mounted light above a resident’s bed,” Lesh said. “The fire alarm to the building went off and a portion of the building was evacuated as a precaution until crews could check for any extension or additional hazards. The fire was contained to the light and no fire extension was found.”
He said firefighters had the fire under control within 15 minutes.
He said no injuries were reported. Firefighters remained at the scene until about 10:30 p.m.
Lesh said the fire was ruled accidental.
“The ballast (an electrical component) in a lighting fixture went bad,” he said.
The Rock Community Fire Protection District and Rock Township Ambulance District assisted with the call, he said.
