A Herculaneum man escaped injury in a chain-reaction accident Tuesday afternoon (May 15) in south St. Louis County near the Jefferson Barracks Bridge. However, an Arnold man who was a passenger in the large van the Herculaneum man was driving was hurt, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 3:44 p.m., David A. Kuhlman, 61, of Herculaneum was driving a 2005 Ford E-350 van east on I-255 and slowed for traffic congestion ahead, and Ian R. Brown, 21, of Florissant, in an eastbound 2007 Chevrolet Express van, slowed behind him. However, Selmir Sulejmanovic, 23, of St. Louis, in an eastbound 2015 Chrysler 200 car came from behind, and the front of the car struck the rear of the Express, which, in turn, struck the rear of the E-350, the report said.
No injuries were reported for Kuhlman or Brown.
However, Sulejmanovic and a passenger in the E350 – Frank G. Wansong, 75, of Arnold – were moderately injured and transported by Mehlville Fire Protection District to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County. Sulejmanovic was treated and released, and Wansong was listed in satisfactory condition the afternoon (May 17), a hospital spokesman said.
All those involved in the accident wear wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The car was totaled, the Express was extensively damaged and the E-350 was moderately damaged, the report said.
