Festus Police patch 2019

A mother and a baby have been found safe after Festus Police issued an Amber Alert and began looking for them Wednesday night (Feb. 6), authorities reported.

The mother, a 35-year-old Festus woman, and her 5-month old son were reported missing about 11:20 p.m. following a domestic dispute at a home in the 700 block of Delmar Avenue in Festus, authorities reported.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police notified Festus Police at 6:17 a.m. this morning (Feb. 7) that the mother and baby had been found at a home in St. Louis where one of the mother’s friend’s lives, Festus Police Cpl. Jessica Griffaw said.

That home is close to where the mother’s car had been discovered near South Kingshighway Boulevard and Tholozan Avenue in south St. Louis, authorities reported.

Festus Police said the mother and the baby’s father had a dispute at their Festus home, and family members told officers they feared the woman might harm the child and herself because of statements she had made before she left with her son.

“It was a ‘safety’ Amber Alert, not an abduction,” Griffaw said.

St. Louis Police investigators interviewed the mother and “determined she was not a threat to her son and he was not in any danger,” Festus Police reported.

The baby remains with his mother, Griffaw said today.

No charges have been filed against the mother, Griffaw added.
