An SUV was found torched after it reportedly was stolen from a garage at a home in the 1600 block of Wellington Woods Drive in Eureka and three days later was involved in an accident in St. Louis. The 2015 Acura MDX was valued at about $23,000, Eureka Police reported.

At approximately 8:05 a.m. May 12, a 36-year-old Eureka woman reported that the SUV was stolen from her home’s garage, which accidently had been left open. She said her husband believed he had closed the garage door at 1 a.m., and she had left the SUV unlocked with her purse inside. The keys to the SUV were inside the purse, the report said.

Surveillance video showed the SUV and a dark-colored pickup being driven away from the home at about 4:30 a.m. May 12, according to the report.

At 7 p.m. May 15, St. Louis Police informed Eureka Police that the SUV had been involved in an accident there, but the driver fled the scene. Officers later found the SUV had been set on fire near the intersection of North Grand Boulevard and Olive Street, the report said.

Surveillance video showed a group of people running from the SUV before the fire burned it. No suspects had been identified as of May 22, Eureka Police reported.

Lt. Michael Werges asks anyone with information about the stolen SUV to call Eureka Police at 636-938-6600.
