Pevely Board of Aldermen members have agreed to pay $65,000 to buy a property at 312 Main St., across the street from City Hall, so the sewer line at the site can be repaired.
The .21-acre property includes a vacant home, which city officials plan to have demolished so the sewer improvements can be made.
“It’s had sewer issues in the past,” City Administrator Nathan Schauf said. “There is a main that runs along the border of the property. We will improve the sewer line. We will add a new section.”
He said the city had the property appraised, and it was valued at $66,000.
The work on the property likely will take place in the next few months, Schauf said. “I feel confident saying sometime this summer,” he said.
Schauf said no plans have been made for the property beyond tearing down the house and making the sewer line improvements.
“At this point, we will explore any sort of options, whether leaving it green or some other use,” he said.
The board voted 6-0 April 5 to purchase the property. Ward 4 Alderman William Brooks was absent from the meeting.
