Old Lemay Ferry Road opens to two-way traffic Friday

The road will open to two-way traffic on Friday.

A portion of Old Lemay Ferry Road, from Vogel Road to Spring Forest Drive, is reopening to two-way traffic by 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21.

Over the summer, the 2,850-foot stretch of road was closed to northbound traffic as construction crews worked to widen the road and add shoulders.

According to an Aug. 17 Jefferson County Public Works statement, Old Lemay Ferry Road will open with temporary traffic lights directing motorists through the construction zone. Construction is expected to be completed by late fall, the release stated.

Once complete, the stretch of road will have 12-foot travel lanes and 5-foot shoulders, along with a left-turn lane into the Buena Vista subdivision at Adobe Drive. Public Works Director Jason Jonas said previously that these improvements should help mitigate run-off-the-road crashes and rear-end collisions at the subdivision entrance.

This portion of Old Lemay Ferry has about 11,468 average daily travelers.
