GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The Great Falls Police Department (GFPD) and Central Montana High Risk Unit are responding to an incident in the 1000 block of 5th Avenue South on Thursday afternoon, prompting Longfellow Elementary and Our Lady of Lourdes to operate under shelter-in-place status. Some residents in the surrounding area have also been asked to evacuate their homes.
GFPD said in a social media post that the schools would remain in shelter-in-place until the situation has not been resolved. It also said the incident was not happening inside the schools, but in the vicinity.
Drivers were also warned to avoid the neighborhood, but if they must travel through to use 6th Avenue South or 9th Street South.
