Sports fans face an enviable dilemma on Monday, October 26. For the 33rd time in history, North America’s four major men’s professional sports leagues will compete on the same day. This year’s sports equinox comes with a bonus: the WNBA Finals.
The World Series continues in Florida, the Dallas Cowboys visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football and the Golden State Valkyries host the Atlanta Dream in a pivotal WNBA Finals matchup. Meanwhile, basketball and hockey fans have another dozen games competing for their attention.
What Is a Sports Equinox?
The term “sports equinox” refers to a day when all four major North American men’s professional sports leagues—the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL—have games scheduled. Despite its astronomical-sounding name, the phenomenon has nothing to do with the sun.
Major League Baseball is approaching the conclusion of its postseason while the NFL is well into its regular season. The NHL typically begins playing in early October, followed by the NBA later in the month.
The first recorded sports equinox occurred on October 17, 1971, when the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Baltimore Orioles in Game 7 of the World Series. The NFL also had a full slate of games that Sunday, accompanied by NBA and NHL action.
According to Sportradar, Monday marks the 33rd sports equinox. The most recent occurred on October 27, 2025. This is also only the fourth occasion when WNBA basketball has been part of the lineup.
Which Games Are Being Played on October 26?
The evening begins at 7 p.m. ET with the Los Angeles Kings visiting the New York Rangers. The NBA also gets underway at that hour, with the Minnesota Timberwolves facing the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Washington Wizards visiting the Charlotte Hornets.
At 8 p.m. ET, the Milwaukee Brewers face the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the World Series. Milwaukee won the opening two games by one run each and enters Monday with a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series. Neither franchise has previously won a World Series championship.
At the same time, the Golden State Valkyries host the Atlanta Dream in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals at San Francisco’s Chase Center. The series is tied 2-2.
Fifteen minutes later, the Dallas Cowboys meet the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. The NFC East rivals have battled for divisional supremacy since 1960.
Hockey fans can also watch the Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Calgary Flames at 8:30 p.m. ET, followed by the Detroit Red Wings against the Edmonton Oilers at 9:30 p.m. ET.
The NBA’s nine-game schedule concludes with the Golden State Warriors visiting the Denver Nuggets at 10 p.m. ET. That’s 15 games across five leagues.
Las Vegas Might Be the Best Place to Experience a Sports Equinox
Attending all 15 games is impossible, but watching them simultaneously is another matter entirely. Las Vegas has become a major sports tourism destination, and visitors don't need stadium tickets to catch the excitement.

Rather than choosing between a World Series pitch and a football touchdown, visitors can follow both while keeping an eye on basketball and hockey.

Las Vegas is also home to the NFL's Raiders and NHL's Golden Knights, while Formula 1 races down the Strip each November during the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
When Will the Next Sports Equinox Happen?
Unlike its astronomical counterpart, the next sports equinox has no fixed date.
October 26 is currently the only sports equinox scheduled for 2026. Another could theoretically occur if a postseason baseball game or NFL matchup were postponed and rescheduled for a date when the other leagues were playing.
