Danville, Pa. — Montour County residents will have an opportunity to voice their concerns at a hearing Friday regarding a rezoning petition for a proposed data center, officials announced.

The hearing follows Talen Energy's request to rezone its property in Anthony Township from agricultural to industrial in October. Talen owns more than 1,000 acres in the northern part of the county, where it operates a natural gas plant. The rezoning request includes hundreds of acres of farmland and a small portion of the Montour Preserve.

At a well-attended November meeting, the Montour County Planning Commission voted against the recommending approval of the change to Montour County commissioners.

Now, commissioners will have the opportunity to hear from the public directly.

Residents have expressed concerns about the proposed project which include property values, the cost of electricity, noise, and water use.

The hearing is to be held at 9:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 12 Brookside Drive, Danville.  Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. Attendees will not be able to enter before that time due to final setup.

The hearing is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the rezoning on Feb. 10 at their regular meeting.
