An alpaca was given a mirror "for company" to help him with loneliness.

Giovanni, an 18-year-old alpaca, has been given mirrors in his field to help him feel less on his own.

Carers installed it after two alpacas he shared a pen with - named Eddie and Guiseppie - died of old age.

Giovanni lives at Screech Owl Sanctuary & Animal Park in Saint Columb, Cornwall.

Owners Kevin and Karen explained how they have been on the look out for new company for Giovanni - as alpacas are herd animals.

Karen explained how they decided to place mirrors in his enclosure so that 'he perceives he is not alone as a short term solution'.

She said: "An appeal for mirrors was made and the local community rallied round".

The team have said Giovanni now has 'plenty' of mirrors - and there is hope on the way for the lonely alpaca.

Karen added: "We are also pleased to say that we have been offered two young female alpacas by a local lady.

"It will therefore not be long before Giovanni will have some new friends."
