Motorists will have the opportunity to learn more about upcoming improvements to the intersection of Jeffco Boulevard with St. John’s Church Road in Arnold as well as at the intersection of Hwy. 61-67 with Miller Road East just south of the city limits.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is scheduled to hold an open house-style public meeting about the improvements from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3517 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold. In case of inclement weather, an alternate meeting date is set for Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the same time and location.

No formal presentation is planned at the open house, but MoDOT engineers and planners will be on hand to discuss the improvement plans, which call for the addition of traffic signals and turn lanes at both intersections.

“It is a safety improvement project,” MoDOT area engineer Stephen O’Connor said. “When we reviewed the data, it showed something needed to be done (to improve those intersections), and the research showed that signals are the best options.”

O’Connor said a left-turn lane already exists on Jeffco Boulevard at the intersection with St. John’s Church Road, and MoDOT will add a left turn lane on St. John’s Church Road for vehicles turning north onto Jeffco Boulevard.

He also said a left-turn lane will be added to Linderhof Drive, which is across Jeffco Boulevard from St. John’s Church Road, for vehicles to turn south onto Jeffco Boulevard.

“It is a pretty basic project, and I don’t think we will have any push back,” he said. “They (the traffic signals and turn lanes) are definitely needed.”

O’Connor said improvements also will be completed at the intersection of Hwy. 61-67 and Miller Road East, starting with aligning Miller Road East with the entrance of the Dollar General store, 4212 Jeffco Blvd.

MoDOT also will construct three new left-turn lanes, one on the highway, another on Miller Road East and the third on the Dollar General entrance. In addition, a right-turn lane will be constructed on Hwy. 61-67 for vehicles to turn onto Miller Road East, O’Connor said.

“There will be left turns at all four points at the intersection,” he said.

The work will cost an estimated $1.5 million and is expected to begin in June 2024 and be completed in the summer of 2025, MoDOT reported.

Those who can’t attend but want information about the proposed projects may go to modot.org/route-6167-arnold.

“If anyone has any questions, we will be available (during the open house),” O’Connor said. “We will have intersection drawings they can look at to get a good understanding of the project. It is a little easier to look at it than figuring it out in written word.”
