Crews will close Hwy. CC at Hwy. 67 south of Festus beginning at 1 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, for road demolition and reconstruction. The closure is expected to continue through the end of December, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced in a written statement.
During the closure, there will be no access to or from Hwy. CC at Hwy. 67. After the improvements are completed and the closure ends, drivers on Hwy. 67 will use a newly constructed interchange ramps to cross that highway. Motorists on Hwy. CC will only be able to turn right onto Hwy. 67. In addition, motorists on Hwy. 67 will only be able to turn right onto Hwy. CC, according to the statement.
After that phase of improvements is finished, MoDOT will begin removing and lowering Hwy. 67 in early January, MoDOT officials reported.
“Ultimately, (Hwy.) CC will be on a bridge over (Hwy. 67),” MoDOT spokesman Andrew Gates said. “To do that, we will have to lower and rebuild (Hwy.) 67 between the new ramps between (Hwy.) 67 and (Hwy.) CC. The ramps are mostly built, but we have to connect them to the existing roadways – that is what the closure that starts Monday will do.”
Detour routes are the following:
■ Drivers north of Hwy. 67 will use Gamel Cemetery Road and Pounds Road to access Veterans Boulevard (Hwy. A), then access I-55 to travel to Hwy. 67.
■ Drivers south of Hwy. 67 will use Hwy. CC to access Hwy. 67 through the Hwy. 110-Hwy. 67 interchange.
Drivers will be directed to detour routes through signage.
All work is weather permitting.
The purpose of the overall project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region, according to the MoDOT website.
The Hwy. CC-Hwy. 67 work is part of an estimated $246 million I-55 Corridor Improvements project that runs from just north of Pevely south to just south of Festus.
