Motorists who plan to drive on Hwy. 67 in the Festus area this weekend should be prepared for nightly delays and detours, as crews demolish the southbound I-55 bridge over Hwy. 67, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

MoDOT will completely close both directions of Hwy. 67 starting at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7. All lanes should be closed by 9 p.m.

MoDOT said a northbound lane and a southbound lane will reopen by 6 a.m. Saturday, March 8. However, all lanes will close again by 9 p.m. Saturday to continue bridge demolition. One lane each way will reopen again by 6 a.m. Sunday, March 9. Then, all lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, March 10.

The following are the detour routes for the nightly closures on Hwy. 67:

■ Northbound traffic on Hwy. 67 will detour onto southbound I-55 and travel to exit 170 where drivers may exit, travel south on Hwy. 61 and continue north via northbound I-55.

■ Southbound traffic on Hwy. 67 will detour via westbound Hwy. A to I-55 exit 175 where drivers may continue on southbound I-55 to reach southbound Hwy. 67.

■ The loop ramp in the northeast section of the I-55/Hwy. 67 interchange will be closed during the bridge demolition. Drivers on northbound I-55 wanting to travel south on Hwy. 67 will detour onto northbound Hwy. 67 at exit 174 and travel via westbound Hwy. A to I-55 exit 175 where drivers may continue south on I-55 to reach southbound Hwy. 67.

There will be detour signs along the routes.

The bridge demolition is a part of the I-55 Corridor Improvements project to widen I-55 from north of Hwy. Z near Pevely to Hwy. 67 south of Festus. As part of the project, 14 bridges will be replaced and eight bridges will be rehabilitated. In addition, MoDOT will replace the superstructure of four bridges and will build a completely new section of Hwy. CC over the Hwy. 67 bridge.
