The League of Women Voters of Metro St. Louis will hold a “Meet the Candidates” event for the five people seeking seats on the Rockwood School District Board of Education in the April 5 election.
The forum is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the Rockwood Administrative Annex, 500 N. Central Ave., in Eureka.
The board has two open seats in the April election because incumbents Loralee Mondl and Tom Dunn did not file for re-election to new three-year terms.
Candidates for the three-year seats are Amy Ryan, Deborah Stine, Izzy Imig, Jessica Clark and Charles Keith Messmer.
League of Women Voters president Angie Dunlap said questions for the candidates can be submitted through the organization’s website, my.lwv.org, or at the event.
“We do this as a service to voters and candidates as well, because candidates want to share what they’re about and voters want to learn what they’re about,” she said.
The district is planning to live stream the forum on its YouTube channel and a replay of the event will be available on the channel.
The League of Women Voters also is scheduled to hold a candidate forum for the Wildwood City Council at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Wildwood City Hall, 16860 Main St. Questions for this event also can be submitted through the organization’s website.
For the Wildwood City Council in Wards 4, 6, 7 and 8, which are entirely or partly in the 63040 ZIP code, no one new will be joining the board in April, as all four incumbents filed and will face no opposition: Joe Farmer (Ward 4), Rob Rambaud (Ward 6), Dan Flascher (Ward 7) and Michael K. Gillani (Ward 8).
Council members serve two-year terms.
Dunlap said events like this are important for democracy.
“One of the best ways for people to really understand who they’re voting for is for candidates to speak and answer questions in a public forum,” she said.
The last day to register to vote in the election is March 9.
The League has not announced plans to hold a similar forum for Eureka municipal candidates.
