Jefferson College officials called off afternoon and evening classes today, Sept. 25, at the Jefferson College Hillsboro campus after a power outage struck at about noon.

Initially, afternoon classes were called off but President Dena McCaffrey said that a decision would be made by 4 p.m. about whether evening classes will be held. Just after 4 p.m., a post announced the cancellation of evening classes and told students to check Canvas for information from their instructors.

“We are unsure what happened,” McCaffrey said before 1 p.m. “The power went out across campus, but not at Viking Woods (student housing). We have been in contact with Ameren and are waiting for them to arrive.”

The cancellation of classes only affects the Hillsboro campus. Classes at the Arnold and Imperial campuses will proceed as scheduled, she said.
