A free webinar to teach people how to administer naloxone, the drug known as Narcan that can revive a person who has overdosed on opioids, will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17.
The Jefferson County Health Department, the Jefferson County Community Mental Health Fund Board and the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (NCADA) are working together to hold the training.
The webinar will be held via Zoom, the online meeting app.
Participants who complete the training will be able to pick up a kit with two free doses of naloxone, NCADA deputy executive director Jenny Armbruster said.
She said the training is open to anyone, but those who are at a high risk of witnessing or experiencing an overdose are encouraged to sign up.
Armbruster said the webinar is limited to 100 people.
“This is a great time to access the training,” she said. “It will be easy; they can do it in the comfort of their own home and make arrangements to pick up the medication available at no cost.”
Armbruster said Colton Baker, a certified peer specialist living in recovery, will host the training.
She said NCADA hopes to hold two more Narcan training events in Jefferson County. An in-person class is scheduled for Sept. 23.
“We’re still holding that date and still anticipating that we may be able to do something in person at that time,” she said. “If not, we’ll switch to virtual.”
The third webinar has not been scheduled.
