The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that an eastbound lane on I-44 near Route 66 State Park east of Eureka will be closed around the clock starting at 8 p.m. Monday, March 20. The lane will remain closed through December.
MoDOT warns drivers to be prepared for higher levels of congestion and encourages everyone to consider alternate routes.
The lane closure will be on a bridge that spans the Meramec River. MoDOT is rehabilitating the bridge.
MoDOT also said two westbound lanes will be closed overnight on Tuesday, March 21, Wednesday, March 22, and Thursday, March 23. Those closures will be from 8 p.m. through 5 a.m.
“This work is to continue replacing joints on the bridge, as well as other routine preventative maintenance,” said Ryan Pearcy, MoDOT area engineer for southwest St. Louis County. “We understand the impacts this work has and encourage people to avoid the corridor, if possible, during morning and evening rush period. We encourage people who regularly use this corridor, if they can, to telecommute, adjust their travel hours or use alternate routes to travel east during the work.”
