Brian Haskins and Vicky James have teamed up to plan and hold a town hall meeting to provide information about happenings in the Hwy. 30 corridor.
The meeting will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Pupillo’s Banquet and Event Center, 3033 High Ridge Blvd., in High Ridge.
“It’s just an informational meeting for the people on the Hwy. 30 corridor, and we combined efforts because (our council districts) are pretty much what runs through the corridor,” said James (District 7, Cedar Hill).
There is no charge to attend the meeting. In addition, free refreshments will be served.
Haskins said he and James will cover the cost to hold the event. Haskins (District 1, High Ridge) said the event has nothing to do with the upcoming election.
James said several county officials and staff members are expected to speak at the event, including County Executive Dennis Gannon, Public Works Director Jason Jonas, Parks and Recreation Director Tim Pigg and Sheriff Dave Marshak.
In addition, new Northwest R-1 School District Superintendent Jennifer Hecktor and new High Ridge Fire Protection District Chief John Barton are expected to speak.
James said she is excited to provide a chance for Hecktor to meet people.
“We wanted to have an opportunity for the new superintendent to be introduced to the community,” she said.
James and Haskins will also speak, and people will have the chance to ask the speakers questions.
Haskins said he believes Marshak will give an update on the crime lab, Pigg will speak about park improvements to be funded with American Rescue Plan Act money and Jonas will give an update on the project to add a mile-long sidewalk along High Ridge Boulevard.
“The purpose of the town hall is to bring our county directors, the citizens and our elected officials a chance to meet and hear about the county services being provided and how our money is being spent,” he said.
In 2019, Haskins held two town hall meetings and has not held any since because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
