Northwest R-1 staff take on the Harlem Wizards at last year's fundraising game.

Northwest R-1 staff take on the Harlem Wizards at the 2019 fundraising game.

After a year hiatus, the Harlem Wizards will be back on the court at Northwest High School, competing against four teams made up of community members and Northwest R-1 School District staff members.

The Harlem Wizards is a professional basketball team known for its entertaining tricks and ball-handling skills.

The game will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 27, at the school, 6005 Cedar Hill Road, in Cedar Hill. Doors will open at 1 p.m.

Advance tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Tickets at the door will be $7 for students and $13 for adults, Julie Schwarz, the chamber’s executive director, said.

Proceeds will benefit the Northwest Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, which uses the money to fund scholarships for area students.

Schwarz said this will be the fourth time for the event at Northwest High, although it has not been held since 2020.

Chamber president Danny Tuggle said the Wizards also will perform during a half-time show.

“They are magicians with basketballs,” he said.

Tuggle said the Wizards will encourage audience members to join in the fun.

He said the four teams will be made up of school district employees, local first responders sponsored by New Hope Fellowship Church, employees of HDD Solutions in Cedar Hill and employees of Piros Signs in Barnhart. Schwarz said the event is usually a lot of fun.

“It’s just all about bringing the community and families together,” she said.

Tuggle said 1,000 people attended in 2020, raising $8,000, and he hopes this year’s event raises $10,000, so the chamber can give out 10 $1,000 scholarships.

Tickets may be purchased online at harlemwizards.thundertix.com/events/193035.

They also are available at five locations, including the chamber, 24 Gravois Station, House Springs; Lindell Bank, 23 Dillon Plaza Drive, High Ridge; Farmers and Merchants Bank, 1010 Crossroads Plaza, High Ridge; and two Enterprise Bank locations – one at 4675 Gravois Road in House Springs and the other at 8475 Local Hillsboro Road in Cedar Hill. Tickets only are available at the chamber office on Wednesdays.
