Participants are needed for a golf tournament to benefit Comtrea’s Mary’s House of Hope at a Safe Place. The Arnold Golf Classic will be held Saturday at the Arnold Golf Club, formerly called Pomme Creek Golf Course, at 1 Golfview Drive.
Registration for the tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m., and a shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. It costs $50 for club members to enter a two-person team in the tournament and $100 for nonmembers to enter a team.
Half of the entry fees and 100 percent of the proceeds from raffles, sponsorships, donations, and fees to enter contests and buy mulligans will go to Mary’s House of Hope at A Safe, a program that will provide transitional housing to women who have been victims of domestic abuse. The women’s children also will be able to live there.
“We’re combining a terrific day of golf to benefit a very meaningful charitable cause and we anticipate an excellent turnout,” Arnold Golf Club superintendent Mark Brady said. “We encourage every player to register early to ensure that they can participate.”
The golf tournament, formerly called the Pomme Cup, is limited to 90 players, or 45 teams, with no age limit for entry.
The tournament consists of a two-player, 18-hole scramble in the morning, with optional skins contests and mulligans available, as well as a player-split, 18-hole, own-ball game in the afternoon when one team member will play the nine-hole front while the other team member plays the nine-hole back.
The entry fee covers the 27 holes of golf and the use of a golf cart, and entrants will receive a gift bag and light lunch. They also will be treated to a whole-hog pig roast dinner by Smokee Mo’s BBQ and live music provided by Rockin’ Bob & Johnny B Goode after the tournament.
Raffles will be included. Hole sponsorships are being sold and cost $25 per sign.
In addition, donations will be accepted for Mary’s House of Hope, which will be built next to Comtrea’s A Safe Place, a shelter that provides shorter-term housing for domestic abuse victims.
Mary’s House of Hope will provide longer housing so women can complete job training and other programs designed to help them get their lives back on track and live independently.
Comtrea has raised $600,000 toward the $950,000 project, and once all the funding is secured, construction will start on the first Mary’s House of Hope four-apartment unit, Comtrea has reported.
