Despite several contested city and school board races and a proposed tax freeze, only about 10 percent of Jefferson County’s registered voters are expected to go to the polls April 7.
County Clerk Jeannie Goff, who is the county’s election authority, said she does not expect more than 10-12 percent of the registered voters in the county to vote in this municipal election. Last year, 9.10 percent of all county voters cast ballots in the April election. In 2024, it was 9.75 percent.
“Of course, there will be pockets of larger (voter) turnout in certain areas,” Goff said March 19. “This time last April, we had 1,197 absentee ballots cast, which is more than what we have this election; 1,132 absentee ballots have been cast (for the April 7 election).”
Several polling locations across the county have changed for the April election, Goff said. Polling places are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day, and voters are allowed to cast their votes if they are in line at closing time.
In Arnold, voters previously assigned to Precinct 37 at the Fox C-6 Service Center will now vote at Rickman Auditorium, 747 Jeffco Blvd.
Goff said going forward, smaller elections, like in April and August, will be held at the auditorium. Larger elections, like in November, will be held at the service center, 849 Jeffco Blvd.
Also in Arnold, those who normally vote at Precinct 38 at St. John’s Lutheran Church will now go to Encounter Church, 1930 Meyer Drury Drive. Goff said there’s ongoing construction at St. John’s, and the polling location will likely return there once it’s complete.
The county could no longer use New Hope Fellowship in Peaceful Village for Precinct 69, so voters in the area will now go to High Ridge Elementary School, 2901 High Ridge Blvd.
Goff said voters assigned to Precinct 81 will continue to vote at Liberty Fellowship Church of God in De Soto, which recently underwent a name change to Journey Community. The church is located at 12312 Hwy. 21.
