The response was overwhelming at a collection the Fox School District held for flood victims

The response was overwhelming at a collection the Fox School District held over the weekend for flood victims.

Flooding victims and others who need food, clothing, toiletries, cleaning supplies and other items may pick them up for free from 4-7 p.m. today (Jan. 4) at the Fox C-6 Service, 849 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold, said Fox High teaching assistant Amy Endicott, who helped organize a collection held over the weekend.

Today, the school district will begin giving out the items collected on Saturday and Sunday, and the distribution will continue throughout the week, although after today, the distribution will be relocated to the Fox High School library, 751 Jeffco Blvd, in Arnold.

Endicott said the distribution will continue Tuesday through Friday (Jan. 5-8), or until all the items are handed out to area residents or donated to nonprofit organizations, which, in turn, will give them to local residents in need.

She said people were so generous that the school district collected enough items to fill the entire board room at the service center.

The collection was held at Fox High on Saturday and then at the service center on Sunday.

Endicott said because of the great response, the collection was cut short on Sunday since there was no more room to store the items.

“We had to start turning people away,” she said. “We got so much clothing, we probably have too much and will have to give it to not-for-profit groups, but we want to make sure they’re groups that will get them into people’s hands.”

New Hope United Methodist Church in Arnold donated 200 buckets filled with cleaning supplies and Ronnoco donated a couple of skids of coffee, Endicott said.

Toiletries, hygiene products, diapers, shoes, toys and many other items were collected, she said.

Gift cards also were donated, and the school district’s social worker will distribute those to Fox families in need, Endicott said.

About 150 volunteers, including numerous Fox and Seckman high school students, helped with the collection and then with sorting the items, Endicott said.

Some of the Fox district school groups involved in the effort include SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), National Honor Society, Student Council and sport teams, Endicott said.

“The Fox High School Student Council has been instrumental in helping us get through this,” she said. “The (Seckman High) wrestling Jag Junior Warriors also have been a big help.”
