Krystal Hargis has resigned her seat on the Fox C-6 Board of Education.
She has served on the board since June 2020 and has been the board president since April 2022.
Hargis sent a letter on Wednesday, Feb. 22, to board members and Superintendent Paul Fregeau announcing her resignation.
“It is with great sadness that I must resign my position on the Fox School Board effective immediately,” she said. “I have dedicated my adult life to this district and the children of Fox Schools. Teaching and serving our children has been one of my greatest rewards. The past three years has been rewarding and stressful. The stress has taken a toll on my physical well-being, so my family and I believe it is time for me to step aside and take care of myself.
“I am grateful for having had the opportunity to serve this community on the board and I offer my best wishes for continued success.”
Jim Chellew, the Fox school board’s vice president, said he does not know if the board will appoint a new member to complete Hargis’ term. Her seat is one of three that is up for election on April 4.
Hargis is not running for another term.
“I understand her decision completely,” Chellew said. “When you have health issues, it is hard to function in that role. I respect her decision. I hate to see it.”
Chellew, who was elected to the board in April 2018, said Hargis has done a great job on the board and as the board president.
“Our district has recovered financially significantly,” he said. “We have some of the highest reserves and capital improvement budget that we have had in the time I have been on the board.
“Our student achievement has improved significantly. She has always kept the interest of the students and those people who serve our students as her top priority.”
Chellew said he believes he will fulfill the duties of the president until the board chooses a new one following the April election.
“I would assume the vice president’s duties is to perform the president’s duty in the absence of the president,” he said.
Hargis also has been a member of the Jefferson College Board of Trustees for more than 20 years, and Jefferson College President Dena McCaffrey said today, Feb. 23, that Hargis had not resigned from that board.
