Fox and Seckman high schools have announced plans to hold proms this spring, after the events were canceled last school year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fox High School’s prom is set for April 24 at Rocking J. Ranch in High Ridge, and Seckman High School’s prom is scheduled for May 1 at the Falls Reception and Conference Center in Columbia, Ill.
The Fox C-6 School District also plans to return to Chaifetz Arena on the campus of St. Louis University for its graduation ceremonies. Seckman High’s commencement ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. May 23, and Fox High’s ceremony is planned for 3 p.m.
Last year, the graduation ceremonies for both high schools were postponed until July, and the venue was changed to the Family Arena in St. Charles.
“As the number of COVID cases in our community has continued to drop, we are able to begin easing some of the restrictions on in-person activities in Fox C-6. Being able to hold an in-person prom is one of those things,” said Tammy Cardona, assistant superintendent for secondary education. “The past 12 months have been a challenge for all our students, so being able to create a sense of normalcy by holding a senior prom is amazing.”
A limited number of tickets will be available for each prom, and those attending will be required to wear face masks, district officials said
A dinner will not be served at Fox High’s prom, and tickets will be available for seniors and possibly juniors. Only seniors will be allowed to purchase tickets for Seckman High’s prom, and those attending will have their temperatures checked before entering the venue, according to the school officials.
