Festus Mayor Sam Richards has ordered the termination of the proposed gun range for the city’s Police Department.
As a result, the June 16 open house to discuss the now-abandoned project has been canceled.
Richards said he called for the end of the project because of public opposition and because of the Festus City Council members’ differing opinions about it.
Plans had called for the gun range to be built on city-owned property at 2300 Sunshine Drive (Old Hwy. A) about a half mile from Larry G. Crites Memorial Park.
Look for more information about the project’s cancellation in the June 19 edition of the Jefferson County Leader.
