Festus officials have rescheduled the 2022 Blues and Funk Festival for Saturday, Oct. 15.
The festival had been set for Saturday, July 23, but it was postponed because extremely hot weather is forecast this weekend, said Barb Lowry, Festus recreation and tourism director.
“We had concerns about the heat,” Lowry said Tuesday, July 19, when the city announced the postponement.
The Dr. Zhivegas band was scheduled to perform at the festival and will still be available for the new date on Oct. 15, Lowry said.
The band will take the stage at 7 p.m. that night at Larry G. Crites Memorial Park along Old Hwy. A. Admission is free for the event.
Lowry said Dr. Zhivegas, a Chicago-based band that plays a variety of rock and dance music, is well known in the region.
“It’s their first time at the Blues and Funk Festival, but not their first time playing in Festus,” she said. “They can play about anything you want.”
She said the band will play a variety of tunes, including some Prince songs. “I asked them to do a whole set of music from Prince,” she said.
Food trucks will be on hand and a Bubble Bus will be at the festival. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, but no coolers.
It will be the 11th Blues and Funk Festival held in Festus. The Festus Tourism Commission sponsors the festival. For information about the event, visit the cityoffestus.org, the Festus Facebook page or call Lowry at 636-937-4694, ext. 313.
