Incumbent Mike E. Reuter won the Aug. 4 Republican primary race for circuit clerk, beating challengers Joe Maddock and Heather Langhans.
No Democrats filed for the office, so Reuter will run unopposed in the Nov. 3 general election.
According to complete, but unofficial results reported by the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, Reuter won the race with 11,930 votes (47.63 percent of the total vote) to Maddock’s 7,163 votes and Langhans’ 5,956 votes.
Reuter, 59, of Hillsboro has served as circuit clerk for the last 11 years.
The circuit clerk is the administrative officer to the 23rd Judicial Circuit Court and is responsible for all jury duty, child support issues and state-issued traffic tickets. The circuit clerk is paid a salary of $87,000.
Reuter said his 20 years of experience in law enforcement along with his military experience continues to prepare him to hold this position.
He said having management experience from his time in the military helps him make sure his staff is treated right.
“My staff has told me many times that it feels like a family more than an office because that's how we treat each other there,” Reuter said.
