After the candidate filing period for the April 7 election closed last week, races had shaped up for several school districts and cities around the county, with the city of Festus drawing the most attention.
Thirteen candidates filed for the four Festus City Council seats up for election in April. The interest in those open seats follows a controversy that emerged over the past few months as the Festus City Council took steps to prepare for the possible development of a data center in the city. CRG of St. Louis plans to develop that data center on property north of Hwy. 67 and west of Hwy. CC in Festus.
Voters in Arnold, De Soto, Hillsboro and Wildwood will also see races on the April ballot, as will those who live in the Dunklin R-5, Fox C-6, Grandview R-2, Meramec Valley, Northwest R-1, Sunrise R-9 and Windsor C-1 school districts.
The period for candidates to file to run for office in April opened on Dec. 9 and ran through Dec. 30.
The last day for governmental entities to place tax increase requests, bond issues and other measures on the ballot is Jan. 27. The last day to register to vote in the election is March 11.
The following is a list of candidates from the Leader readership area who have filed to run in the April election. Incumbents – those who were elected to their seats – are denoted with an (I).
Attempts were made to reach every city, school district, ambulance and fire district and other governmental entities in the area for a list of candidates who had filed. Not every entity responded.
