Longtime Windsor C-1 Board of Education member Dan Shaul has resigned his seat because he and his family are moving out of the district due to his wife’s illness.

Shaul, 54, who also served as District 113 state representative for four terms, has served on the school board since winning his first three-year term in 2011. He won his latest three-year term during the April 2023 election.

Following the meeting, Shaul said his wife, Kim, has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

“She has MS, so we had to find a single-story house for my wife,” he said.

He and his wife, who have three children, are moving from Imperial to the Arnold area, along with their two children who still live with them.

Shaul announced his intention to resign his seat during the Aug. 23 Windsor school board meeting and said that would be the last meeting he attends.

“I will turn in my resignation in the coming weeks before the next meeting,” he said.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Windsor High School auditorium, 949 Windsor Harbor Road, in Imperial.

Before the start of that meeting, at 6:45 p.m., the district will conduct its annual tax rate hearing.

Windsor Superintendent Jason King said Shaul has been a valuable board member.

“Dan has a long history of serving our kids and being an integral part of our Board of Education,” King said. “I think I speak for everyone to say we appreciate his contributions and that he has always put the kids first.”

King said Aug. 23 that district officials had not yet made plans to replace Shaul on the board.

“The board will formally accept his resignation at the next meeting and will look to fill his position according to district policy,” he said. “The board appointee to replace him will fill the seat until the next election (April 2, 2024). The winner of that election will serve the remaining two years of the term.”
