In honor of Flag Day, the Cedar Hill Elks Lodge is inviting people to come learn about the history of the American flag on Saturday, June 11.

Elks officer Miky Balta said doors for the annual Flag Day event will open at 11 a.m. and a ceremony will start at 1 p.m. at the lodge, 8430 Industrial Drive, in Cedar Hill.

She said the ceremony will last between 30 and 45 minutes and will focus on the history of the American flag, including the early version of the flag, symbols in the flag and the reason behind the flag's colors.

Balta said she encourages people to bring their children to the event.

"Because we are all American and should consider ourselves patriotic, we should educate our children about the flag,” she said.

Free water, soda and hot dogs will be served during the event.

She said the Elks East Central District, which includes nine lodges, sponsors the event.

Other lodges involved include De Soto, Eureka-Pacific, Festus-Crystal City, High Ridge, Oakville, Meramec Arnold, Potosi and St. Genevieve.

"We all get together and celebrate as one unit,” she said.
