The Byrnes Mill Board of Alderpersons will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, to discuss proposals for ward redistricting and a new trash service.
That hearing will be held prior to the regular Board of Alderpersons meeting.
For the past few months, city employees have worked to realign the city’s wards. Byrnes Mill has three wards, each one represented by elected officials.
“What we originally thought, based off the map, was kind of off,” Byrnes Mill City Administrator Adam Thompson said at the Nov. 1 Board of Alderpersons meeting. “We had to make some adjustments."
Thompson said the updated map doesn’t include too many changes, although a few houses “here and there” have moved from one ward to another.
The updated map will be available to view at the public hearing.
Byrnes Mill must have the public hearing before the candidate filing date deadline on Dec. 26.
Thompson said the three alderpersons up for re-election on April 2 will have no issues running for the ward they currently serve.
The seats up for election in April are those currently held by Glenn LaVenture, Ward 1; Cindy Davies, Ward 2; and Nicole Pettis, Ward 3.
“Everybody that is going to re-apply (for their ward seat) has not moved out of their ward (based on draft realigned map), so everything is fine,” Thompson said.
Trash service bids
Thompson said the city received two bids for trash services – one from Meridian Waste and the other from American Eagle, which the city already uses for its solid waste collection service.
“We’ll summarize these bids and have the public hearing on Dec. 6 before the regular board meeting,” Mayor Rob Kiczenski said at the Nov. 15 Board of Alderpersons meeting.
City Clerk Melinda Benedict unsealed the bids at the Nov. 15 meeting.
According to the city’s website, Byrnes Mill began using American Eagle Waste as the city’s single trash hauling service on Aug. 1, 2019. The company provides services in other Jefferson County areas, as well as in St. Louis County.
Meridian Waste is headquartered in North Carolina and has trash collection services in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Missouri.
