The Byrnes Mill Police Department hopes to raise $10,000 for the Special Olympics of Missouri this year and is holding a fundraising car show on May 22 to help reach that goal.

The car show will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at Spring Hills Presbyterian Church, 6247 Upper Byrnes Mill Road, in Byrnes Mill.

Byrnes Mill Police Officer Aimee Stockard said any type of car is welcome in the show. The entry fee is $25 and the entry deadline is May 21.

She said people may enter their cars by calling 636-677-7727, ext. 299 and speaking with her or Officer Cody Umfress.

Stockard said she hopes to see at last 15 or 20 cars entered in the show.

She said High Ridge Fire Protection District and North Jefferson Ambulance will be at the event with some of their vehicles.

Stockard said the car show also will include a raffle for baskets. Special Olympics T-shirts will be sold, too. Chips, soda and popsicles will be sold as well.

She said she is not sure if the car show will become an annual Police Department event.

Stockard said the department already has raised $5,500 for Special Olympics by taking part in the organization’s annual Polar Plunge and Law Enforcement Torch Run, both held earlier this year.

“This (raising funds for Special Olympics) is one of our major focuses this year,” she said. “It’s our first year being involved.”
