The Leader has received lots of inquiries about big rigs hauling huge cylinders west on Hwy. 30 and through Jefferson County over the past several weeks.
Apparently, those cylinders are parts for wind turbines being built somewhere else in the country, Judy Wagner, area engineer with the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Wagner said the shafts are for the towers that are part of wind turbines.
The shafts are probably being transported to a wind farm, somewhere north, she said.
Wagner said the trucks probably are taking Hwy. 30 as an alternate route to I-44 because of construction on the bridge over the Meramec River.
