Two teenagers and two women were injured Tuesday afternoon, April 5, in a two-vehicle accident at Hwy. 67 and Montauk Drive south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 12:45 p.m., a 17-year-old De Soto boy was driving a 2013 GMC Sierra east on Montauk Drive and while trying to turn left onto the highway, he reportedly failed to yield, and a northbound 2016 Toyota Avalon struck the driver’s side of the Sierra, the report said.
Mary K. Coomer, 63, of Bonne Terre was driving the Avalon. She was seriously injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where she was listed in good condition today, April 6, a hospital spokesman said.
The 17-year-old had minor injuries, as did two passengers in the Sierra – Kheira L. Gilchrist, 18, and Hanna M. Poplawski, 22, both of Festus. Those three were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, the report said.
No information was available about the 17-year-old’s condition or Poplawski’s condition.
Gilchrist was treated and released at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, the hospital spokesman said.
The 17-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, but the passengers in the Sierra and Coomer were wearing them, the patrol reported.
Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
The highway patrol did not release the 17-year-old’s name because he is a juvenile.
