Three people were injured Thursday afternoon, March 24, in an accident involving a car and a big rig at Hwy. 67 and Montauk Drive north of Olympian Village, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 1:03 p.m., Timothy P. Nevels, 63, of O’Fallon, in a westbound 2018 Freightliner Cascadia, was trying to turn left onto the highway to head south and stopped, blocking both northbound lanes, and Nijah A. Moore, 20, of St. Louis, in a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, tried to stop and steered to the left to avoid the Freightliner, but the car starting skidding and struck the front of the big rig, the report said.

Nevels had minor injuries, and a passenger in the Freightliner – Alexis T. McCully, 18, of Grand Rapids, Mich. – was moderately injured, and both were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

Moore also had minor injuries and was taken by private conveyance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson, where she was treated and released, the hospital spokesman said.

Neither Moore nor McCulley was wearing a seat belt, and Nevels was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The car was totaled, and the Freightliner was moderately damaged, the report said.
