A Festus man was injured Wednesday afternoon, April 13, in a two-vehicle accident on I-55 south of Imperial Main Street. A Granite City, Ill., man also was injured in the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 12:57 a.m., Jacob A. Fiedler, 23, of Festus was driving a 2004 Pontiac GTO north on the interstate and began to spin toward the left lane. In the meantime, Christopher D. Lockett, 26, of Granite City, who was driving a northbound 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer, swerved to avoid a collision, but the front of the tractor-trailer struck the right side of the GTO, and then the tractor-trailer struck the median wall and overturned, the report said.

Fiedler was moderately injured, and Lockett had minor injuries. Both were taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

Fiedler was not wearing a seat belt, and Lockett was wearing one, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles involved were totaled, the report said.
